The Prime Minister met with the local athletes who will be taking part in the 2023 Island Ocean Games. The meeting took place at the Côte d’Or National Sports Complex. “The future looks bright with remarkable performances. Our athletes are our role models”. Statement by the Prime Minister on Monday afternoon, 14 August. Pravind Jugnauth said that the government had spent Rs 62 million on the Indian Ocean Island Games.
“My government has invested massively in sports infrastructure. I am proud that we have built the Côte D’Or sports complex to train elite athletes. My vision was to offer international sports facilities. Some people claimed that this was a waste of money, a white elephant…” he stressed during his speech.

The 2023 Indian Ocean Island Games will be the 11th edition of this multi-sport event for athletes representing the National Olympic Committees of Indian Ocean Island nations.
The 2023 IOIG, scheduled from 25 August to 03 September 2023 in Madagascar, will feature the following disciplines. They are: athletics, badminton, basketball, men’s boxing, men’s cycling, men’s football, weightlifting, handball, judo, karate, wrestling, swimming, petanque, rugby, tennis, table tennis, tennis and volleyball.
