Pop singer Taylor Swift is now one of the world’s richest billionaires, with a net worth of $1.1 billion. She has joined the likes of tech entrepreneur Elon Musk, AI chatbot ChatGPT developer Sam Altman, among others.
She is among the 265 new features in Forbes Richest World’s Billionaires List 2024. She earned such wealth after her record-breaking Eras Tour and a concert film.
The list is topped by French luxury goods tycoon Bernard Arnault, with an estimated net worth of $233 billion (£185 billion).
She made history at the Grammy Awards this year by becoming the first musician to win album of the year four times. Additionally, her album 1989 (Taylor’s Version) was the best-selling vinyl LP of 2023.
Swift’s popularity extends beyond the music industry. It has been said that her mere attendance at American football games to watch her beau Travis Kelce has increased NFL viewership.
According to Forbes senior wealth editor Chase Peterson-Withorn, the richest people in the world had an “amazing” year. “A record-breaking 14 centi-billionaires have 12-figure fortunes. Even during times of financial uncertainty for many, the super-rich continue to thrive,” he added.
According to Forbes, the list includes 2,781 names—141 more than the list from the previous year. The list claims that the billionaires have increased their net worth by $2 billion, bringing their total worth to $14.2 trillion, a $2 trillion rise by 2023, surpassing the GDP of all nations save the US and China. The class of 2024 billionaires is 255% wealthier than it was ten years ago. Only 0.5% of the 2,781 billionaires worldwide own 14% of all billionaire wealth.
With a record 813 billionaires on the list, the US continues to have more billionaires than any other nation geographically. China is still in second place, followed by India.
