Manchester United Legend Denis Law is Diagnosed With Mixed Dementia

Must Read

The former Scottish striker Denis Law, who had made the happiness of Manchester United in the 1960s with 237 goals in 404 matches, announced Thursday that he was suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.

Nicknamed “The King”, long before Eric Cantona, during his years at Old Trafford (1962-1973), Law is still the top scorer of the Scottish selection with 30 goals. Law is part of the “Trinity of United”, a statue on the outskirts of the Manchester stadium, where he is featured alongside George Best and Bobby Charlton, who also revealed in November that he had dementia.

Denis Law, a legendary Manchester United player in the 1960s with 237 goals in 404 matches, announced Thursday that he had Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.

“I’m at a point where I feel like I want to be upfront about my health being. I have been diagnosed (…) with Alzheimer’s disease and vascular dementia,” the former player revealed in a statement. Vascular dementia is related to the destruction of brain tissue due to insufficient blood flow. “It’s an extremely painful and problematic disease and I’ve seen many friends go through it. You always hope that it will only happen to others and you even joke about ignoring the onset of the first signs because you don’t want to admit that it’s true,” he recounted.

“Denis Law will always be one of the greatest legends of the club and everyone at Manchester United sends his affection and best wishes to him and his family,” the Red Devils reacted in a statement.
