The 1st promotion of the Apprenticeship Program at Sofitel Mauritius L’Imperial Resort & Spa took place on Friday October 13. Four apprentices aged between 16 and 18 were trained in various hotel trades.
Giving young people the means to succeed in the hospitality industry. This was the objective of Sofitel Mauritius L’Impérial Resort & Spa when it launched the Apprenticeship Program last year.
The apprenticeship program began in November 2022. Young people, aged between 16 and 18, were recruited to give them the opportunity to improve their academic skills and enhance their career prospects in the hospitality industry.
For eleven months, the apprentices were trained in catering, cooking, reception and accommodation. The training emphasized both theory and practice, to give the apprentices a better understanding of the workings of the trade.
The four apprentices received their diplomas on Friday October 13 at Wolmar, Flic-en-Flac, in the presence of their parents and members of the hotel management team.
For Shoshila Ramsamy – Human Resources Manager, this training can also offer apprentices an international career: “Sofitel is a renowned international chain, so this program also gives young apprentices opportunities within the group.”
For Dharum Boncoeur – apprentice in the kitchen department, this training will enable him to work with confidence: “Everything I’ve learned in class will certainly help me to work better, without fear and with confidence. I’ve also learned to be disciplined, and I’m very happy to be part of the Sofitel L’Imperial family.”
Hans Seewoonundun and Elijah Vieillesse, apprentices in the Lodging & Catering department respectively, concur: “Thanks to this training, I have the skills I need to evolve in a real working environment.”
Jeshilesh Seedin Singh, from the kitchen department, says he’s proud to be part of this class: “I’m proud to be part of the first class of the Apprenticeship Program at Sofitel L’Imperial. It’s a memorable moment for me and also for my parents.”
