The Election Petition Challenging Johnson Roussety’s Election Rejected

The Chief Commissioner of Rodrigues retains his seat. The election petition by Richard Payendee and Jean-Noel Samoisy, challenging his election in Region 5 in the last regional elections, was rejected this morning by Justices Gaitree Manna and Denis Mootoo. Johnson Roussety therefore remains in office. The judges indicated that even if Johnson Roussety was not in Rodrigues during the six months prior to Nomination Day, he could be considered a resident of the island.
