Johnson Roussety has submitted his resignation as Chief Commissioner of Rodrigues. This was planned decision as the electoral agreement of the alliance in power in Rodrigues was based on the sharing of the mandate between Johnson Roussety and Franceau Grandcourt. The latter, who is the leader of the Union du Peuple de Rodrigues (UPR), will be sworn-in tomorrow before the President of the Republic. Pradeep Roopun is expected in Rodrigues this afternoon for the swearing-in ceremony. Classes will end early and civil servants will be allowed to close their offices early to attend the ceremony. The regional elections in Rodrigues tok place in 2022. So, Franceau Grandcourt will hold the reign of power for three years.
The President of the Republic, His Excellency, Prithvirajsing Roopun G.C.S.K, arrived in Rodrigues yesterday afternoon in preparation for the transfer of power ceremony, to betaken place at the Stade Jean Paul II in La Ferme at 15 hour.
