Police Investigate Large-Scale Trafficking Of Expired Drugs Back Into The Market

Must Read

Nearly 5,000 expired drugs with modified labels were seized in a house in Vallée-des-Prêtres. Worth more than millions. Boxes of contraceptives and medicines for heart patients were found. The expiration dates are since 2019, 2020 or April of this year. However, the labels have been changed and adjusted to 2023.

However, the urgency for the police and the Ministry of Health is to trace the expired drugs that have already been sold in pharmacies and health centers. The investigators want to immediately identify the local pharmacies where these expired drugs were delivered.

As a reminder, the director of Capital Health Care Supplies Ltd, Mohamad Ally Jafaar Rassool, was arrested on September 16 on suspicion of being the head of a large-scale trafficking of expired drugs back into the market. He was brought before the court again on Monday 20 September for violating the Fair Trading Act by altering the expiration date on several drugs.

During the day of Sunday 19 September, a pharmacist living in a suburb of the capital returned to the headquarters of Adsu in the Central Barracks about fifty contraceptive tablets that he had bought with Jafaar Rassool.

An operation that promises to be complicated. Investigators hope to trace these expired products after questioning the deliverymen.

The books of account of the company are also studied under the microscope. Investigators are also concerned that disposable medical equipment used, for example, in an operating room may have been recovered, cleaned, packaged and sold.  Labels and materials were seized.

A member of the Pharmacy Board was also on the scene, but for the time being the authorities have not yet reacted to the seizure.

So far no investigation regarding the connection with Indian pharmacists has been started. It is a preliminary investigation that has started.
