The situation is alarming. We are in a state of economic emergency, which can bring extremely serious social consequences in the society”, stated Arvin Boolell during the weekly press conference of the Labour Party on this Friday 1st April 2022.  Commenting on the Audit Report, he said that the director of Audit is in the right place by ringing the alarm bell with the situation prevailing in our institutions. He also stated that this report is unprecedented and is a master’s stroke, detonator, and a vote to sanction the government regime.

The president of the Labour Party (PTr), Patrick Assirvaden has commented on the statement of Nando Bodha about Dr Navin Ramgoolam stating: “Nando Bodha has undermined all negotiations and relations within the Opposition.”  On this note, he made it clear that “there is no meeting planned between the PTr and the Opposition ”.

The president of the PTr also raised questions about the increase in the prices of basic foods in super markets and stated that “the population is living a real nightmare concerning the increase in prices in the country”. Why are the Minister of Commerce and the Prime Minister not taking any adequate action to ease the population? He commented on the possibility of an increase in electricity rates and pointed out that the Central Electricity Board recorded profits of about $7.8 billion in its 2020 annual report.

As for Osman Mahomed, he commented on the two pledges taken by the Prime Minister at COP 26, namely 60% renewable energy till 2030 and the progressive elimination of carbon in energy production.
