Old Skool Massiv: Comeback Of The Pioneers Of Urban Music

Must Read

Old Skool Massiv is a collective gathering the pioneers of urban music in Mauritius. Initiated by Jerome Chamtyoo of the group Boogie Side Gang (BSG), the new formation is working on Vibe-la so, a single to be released in October.

Back 30 years ago. It was in the 1990s that urban music made its appearance on the island, notably through raggamuffin. Several groups such as Dance Masters, BSG, Street Brothers, BTM will surf on this new musical wave. In the 2000s, the group MonAster and others will take up the torch.

Evolving formerly within the group BSG, Jerome Chamtyoo alias Natty Jay wanted to bring together these former glories to resume the adventure: “Now living in France, I had the idea of this collective during the confinement of last year. And when I contacted the members of these former groups, they were all very excited to get back on track. The collective is currently composed of Marino and Ricardo Paul – Dance Masters, El Passi – Ragga Beat Movement, Benz Blakka – MonAster and myself.

If for the moment there is no question of an album, the collective is working on a single entitled Vibe-la so: “To mark our return we have adapted to the current trend. The song Vibe-la so is thus interpreted on Afrobeat. The single will be accompanied by a video clip that will be released in October.
