A group of people armed with sabres clashed near the ABC traffic circle in Camp Yoloff late on the afternoon of Friday May 3, following an incident that took place a few days earlier in Camp Yoloff. Three members of a family living in Le Hochet, Terre-Rouge were attacked. One of them, aged 60, was admitted to the neurology ward of the intensive care unit of the Dr. A.G. Jeetoo Hospital, Port-Louis, where he was placed on artificial respiration.

Following a request, a team of police officers from the Trou Fanfaron police station went to route Abattoir, Roche-Bois at 2.10pm on Friday May 3. A man was lying on the ground with a wound on his right foot that was bleeding profusely. Although he was conscious, he was unable to give his identity or the circumstances of his attack, as he was in too much pain.

He was immediately rushed to Dr Jeetoo Hospital. In the emergency department, a 38-year-old man from Le Hochet, Terre Rouge, who had come in for treatment, approached the police and identified the 60-year-old as his father. A 28-year-old man who also lives at the same address was also at the hospital.

The 60-year-old’s son underwent surgery and was subsequently placed under observation. Footage of the fight was captured by Safe City surveillance cameras.

The sexagenarian, who was on a motorcycle, had stopped to attack two young people on a motorcycle. He was in the company of his son and another relative. He allegedly blamed the two young motorcyclists for the previous incidents. The argument quickly escalated into a bloody brawl. A group of people were on hand to support the two youngsters.

The 60-year-old man and his son were assaulted.
