PM: Together, As One Nation, We Will Face The Situation Caused By The Pandemic

Must Read

Yesterday in the news of the MBC, the Prime Minister addressed the nation and commented on the news. The reopening of our borders, the covid-19 among other topics discussed.  Here is a summary of this interview:

The PM pointed out that the reopening of our borders is a very important step for the future of our country. After about 18 months of closure, many activities have slowed down or even stopped completely, especially in the tourism sector. That’s why this step is a major turning point to move towards normality.

Fully satisfied with the way the government has managed the pandemic, the various health restrictions are now alleviated thanks to the vaccination campaign which is the key element of this new stage that we have crossed today. Despite the difficulties we have had in getting the vaccines, our vaccination campaign is running without interruption, compared to other countries around the world.

The numbers are in: 68% of the population has received a first dose; 63% are fully vaccinated, which represents a percentage of 88% of the adult population fully vaccinated.  A big thank you to India, China, Covax Facilities and the USA for the donations of vaccines they have made to Mauritius.

Regarding the 3rd dose, said to be the booster dose, it is after a consultation with experts that the government has launched its campaign for the 3rd dose. For 18 year olds, an order of 1 million doses of the Pfizer vaccine has been placed with the Pfizer laboratory.  Very soon, the vaccine will be available for Mauritius.

As far as the economic recovery is concerned, it is well known that the pandemic has brought the whole world to its knees, but thanks to the vaccination and the respect of the sanitary measures, we are in a position to reopen our borders and to relaunch the economy.

To highlight, the government has disbursed Rs 25 billion for the Wage Assistance Scheme and the Self Employed Assistance Scheme in order to preserve employment in this time of pandemic.

“Hand in hand, we can face this situation as one nation,” said Pravind Jugnauth in conclusion.
