Local music can be proud! The song Mo Capitaine by Michel Legris has been covered by Nigerian star Asake. Jason Heerah is the initiator of this project.
Yoga. This is the title of the cover of Mo Capitaine by the late Michel Legris. Released on 30 January on YouTube, the clip, which was shot in Senegal, has more than 4 million views.
Jason Heerah tells us about the genesis of this cover: “Michel Legris died in 2015. To pay tribute to him, I covered Mo Capitaine which I posted on my YouTube channel. Years later, Asake came across it through TG Omori, with whom I had worked on the video Coco de l’Elijah. Touched by my version of Mo Capitaine. He decided to use the melody of the song with Nigerian lyrics. In January this year, the artist’s team asked me if he could take part of my interpretation. After an agreement, the song Yoga was born!
Commenting on his musical plans, the artist makes no secret of the fact that 2023 will certainly be prolific for him: “I’m going back to Australia for my Australian Idol signing. I’m actually the drummer in the band that accompanies the contestants. Then I also have to finish my next album with Otentik Groove. There’s also an album I co-wrote with Linzy Bacbotte. There will certainly be singles in the course of the year.”
