Must Read

Joe Lesjongard, Fazila Jeewa-Daureeawoo and Maneesh Gobin of the MSM were at a press conference yesterday at the Sun Trust building. Several topics of current affairs were discussed by the speakers. Among other things, the celebrations marking the 40th anniversary of the MSM and the birth date of Sir Anerood Jugnauth were discussed, as well as the importance of the water supply, assistance to the elderly and the return to Parliament.

Joe Lesjongard emphasized that the MSM has come a long way for 40 years, before with SAJ and now with Pravind Jugnauth to mark the history of our country. He pointed out that SAJ was able to transform the country economically and create hundreds of thousands of jobs when the country was facing difficulties. The MSM President announced a day of recollection on March 29 on the samadhi of Sir Anerood Jugnauth at the Pamplemousses Garden. In addition, the MSM will organize a cultural tribute on April 8 in Rivière-du-Rempart where SAJ started his political career and a ‘memorial reading’ at the Octave Wiehé Auditorium.

The Minister of Social Security commented on the launch of the National Integrated Care for Older People Strategic and Action Plan 2022-2026 by the Prime Minister, Pravind Jugnauth, during this week in Cote d’Or.  She hinted that the government will continue to assist the elderly.

For his part, the Attorney General and Minister of Agro-Industry, Maneesh Gobin, particularly focused his speech on the return to Parliament. In this context, he said that the government will continue to implement its program for the welfare of the people and the country. “The government is serene. We hope that everything will take place in discipline and respect for the institutions of parliamentary democracy and that there will be no slippage. We are working on several important themes and topics, which concern, among others, several sectors, including health, renewable energy, education and the environment,” he said.

At the time of the questions, Fazila Jeewa-Daureeawoo answered that Pravind Jugnauth, as a lawyer has the right to criticize a judgment if he does not agree with the reasoning of the Court. The Attorney General, Maneesh Gobin, while respecting his duty of reserve, said that it has always been permissible to criticize the judgments of the courts of justice.
