Health: Flu Vaccination Campaign Launched

Must Read

Fazila Jeewa-Daureeawoo, Minister for Social Security, Social Integration and National Solidarity, launched the flu vaccination campaign on Monday 8 April.

Aimed at people aged 60 and over and people with disabilities, this flu vaccination campaign takes place every year, more specifically at the start of winter. 808 people were vaccinated against seasonal flu on the first day of the campaign, at the NPF building in Rose-Hill.

Speaking at the event, Fazila Jeewa-Daureeawoo stressed the importance of getting vaccinated: “The government is committed to the protection, safety and well-being of vulnerable people such as the elderly and people with disabilities. The flu vaccination campaign is one of the measures in line with the National Integrated Care for Older People (ICOPE) Strategic and Action Plan. My department is working closely together to ensure the well-being of our senior citizens”.

The campaign will be held in 40 locations across the island. It will run for five weeks, ending on Monday 13 May 2024. Vaccines will also be available in Rodrigues and Agaléga.

In addition, around 360 Ministry doctors will administer the flu vaccine to 28,000 people at home.

Residents of 22 charitable institutions and 54 private retirement homes will also benefit from the seasonal flu vaccine. Children in 45 Special Needs Schools will also be able to be vaccinated.

Seniors and people with disabilities are advised to bring their identity card and vaccination card with them to be vaccinated. Most vaccination centres will be open between 9am and 2pm. In some places, centres will open between 9 a.m. and midday or from 12.30 p.m. to 2 p.m.
