Must Read

Cledy Malbrook, a 22-year-old resident of Cité La Cure, is being actively sought by the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of the Metropolitan Police, Northern Division, on a charge of theft with violence from a taxi driver. The offence, which took place in Morcellement La Vallée, Sainte Croix on the afternoon of Thursday 11 April, was recorded on the taxi’s on-board surveillance camera. The 43-year-old driver, who lives in the Cassis area, was robbed of Rs 4,000.

The taxi driver went to Abercrombie police station, Sainte Croix, at around 2pm to report this case of robbery with violence. In his statement, he explained that he had been accosted by an individual at around 1pm while at his base of operations on the motorway near Shibani Finance in Port-Louis. The man asked him to run an errand for him in Terre Rouge. They agreed on a fare of Rs 400. On the way, the passenger asked him to take him to Sainte Croix, more precisely to Morcellement La Vallée.

When it was time to pay the fare, the passenger pulled out a long knife and demanded that the driver give him Rs 600. At gunpoint, he demanded more money after seeing where the driver had withdrawn his money. The driver, who tried to give as little as possible, was threatened and implored his assailant to leave the rest of his money, as he had children and also debts to pay.

The suspect refused to listen and robbed the forty-year-old of all his money before fleeing. The victim was still in a state of shock when he went to the police station to lodge a complaint. He also gave investigators a copy of the video recording of the violent scene in his vehicle.
