Mrs Marie Jeanne Florence Coindreau Joins The Centenarian Club

Mrs Marie Jeanne Florence Coindreau, born on 1st August 1923, celebrated her 100th birthday, yesterday, at Shotz in Flic en Flac.

An official ceremony was organised by the Ministry of Social Integration, Social Security and National Solidarity to honour the new centenarian. Mrs Coindreau received from the authorities a cheque amounting to Rs 26,203; a centenarian medal; a bouquet; a certificate; an Air Fryer; a gift from the Senior Citizens Council; and a cheque to the tune of Rs 10,000 from the National Solidarity Fund.

The Minister of Land Transport and Light Rail, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, Mr Alan Ganoo; the Member of Parliament, Mrs Marie Sandra Monia Mayotte; the Mayor of the Municipal Town Council of Quatre Bornes, Mr Dooshiant Ramluckhun; as well as family members and friends were present to celebrate the centennial birthday.

Mrs Marie Jeanne Florence Coindreau, lovingly known as ‘Ayou’, was born in the town of Rose Hill, and was raised by her maternal uncle, Mr Antonio, who worked as a driver while his wife made hats. She had one brother and two sisters. Her brother and one sister have passed away. Her other sister is aged 97 years old.

The Centenarian studied up to Standard Four at Notre Dame des Lourdes RCA school. At the age of 21 years old, she married Mr Maximilien Iders Coindreau who was a general worker at Randabel Company Limited while she worked as a dressmaker. Out of this union, three children were born namely, two sons and one daughter. Her husband passed away at the age of 65 years old. Mrs Coindreau has eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She is a fan of vegetarian food but at times consumes non-vegetarian food as well. Mrs Coindreau likes to attend Church Mass and interact with people. She also likes to watch television and going to the beach.
