Motorcyclist Succumbs To His Injuries

Rajiv Mahen Deenoo, known as Ritesh, 32, succumbed to his injuries in the northern hospital on Sunday evening, 5 September. The thirty-year-old, who lived in Petit-Raffray, was seriously injured in a road accident on Thursday 26 August. The motorbike he was riding was involved in an accident with a car on the Route Royale in Roche-Terre. A 17-year-old teenager who was travelling with him as a rear passenger was also seriously injured.

It was around 8.05pm on 26 August when Goodlands Police Station was alerted to a road accident in Roche Terre. A Nissan car was involved in an accident with a Haojue motorbike. The motorcyclist and his passenger were seriously injured on the asphalt. An ambulance from the Emergency Medical Service was sent to the scene to transport the two injured to the northern hospital.

The driver of the car, a 29-year-old bricklayer from Grand-Gaube, was given a breath test. This was negative. After his interrogation he was allowed to go home.

After receiving first aid, Rajiv Deenoo was admitted to the medical section of the intensive care unit. The teenager was admitted to the ward. The body of Rajiv Deenoo was taken to the morgue of the Dr A.G. Jeetoo Hospital, Port Louis for autopsy on Monday morning.

As for the driver of the car involved in the accident, he will be brought before the Pamplemousses court this Monday on a provisional charge of manslaughter.
