“Mo latet fatigue ek mo finn koup mo lamin ek enn cann likozad”. This is what an 18-year-old detainee said to a police officer who was conducting surveillance in the cells of the Piton police station. The man, a homeless man, was arrested on Monday 29 August for a theft in Plaine des Papayes using a false key. The detainee was taken to the North Hospital for treatment and was subsequently admitted to the ward.

The teenager was brought before the court in Pamplemousses and was held in a police cell until Monday 5 September. On Wednesday 31 August at around 4.45pm, a police officer was sentrying the cells at the Piton police station. At one point, he had to check cell number one in which the teenager was being held.

It was then that he noticed that the detainee had injuries to his left hand. He had cuts and was bleeding. When asked about the origin of his injuries, he had to say, “Mo latet fatigue ek mo finn koup mo lamin ek enn cann likozad.” He was removed from his cell and taken to the North Hospital. The condition of this detainee, who was admitted, is stable.
