Electoral Alliance : “Things Are Moving In The Right Direction” – Says Bérenger

Must Read

In front of the press yesterday morning, Paul Bérenger commented on the negotiations between the MMM, the PMSD and the Labour party.

He said that on January 5, Nando Bodha, Xavier-Luc Duval and himself met. The next day, he and Duval met with Navin Ramgoolam to continue discussions on a possible alliance. “Things are moving in the right direction. The Labour executive will meet this month. Xavier-Luc Duval is returning home at the end of the month. The L’Espoir leadership will meet when Duval returns and then we will meet with Ramgoolam again. But things are going in the same direction,” he said.

Paul Berenger also said that Nando Bodha will wait for the end of the discussions between the MMM, the PMSD and the Labour Party before clarifying his position. But in the meantime, said the purple leader, he is fully active in the L’Espoir platform.

The MMM leader also commented on the Ajay Gunness case. The deputy leader of the MMM received 4 reports from the police this week, notably for driving under the influence of alcohol. For Paul Bérenger, this is an attempt at diversion that has totally failed. Just before, Paul Bérenger was commenting on the presidential pardon granted to Prakash Chandra Dip by the Pardon Commission.

Bérenger asks for the resignation of all the members of the Commission for prerogative of mercy

It was the first subject commented by Paul Bérenger in a press conference this Saturday. The leader of the MMM underlined that the Commission for prerogative of mercy was guilty of a lack of respect towards the judiciary and the Supreme Court. Paul Bérenger even accused “Pravind Jugnauth’s MSM of having created a parallel justice system to allow people convicted by the Supreme Court or whose appeal has been rejected to escape their conviction.”

He denounced the “scandalous speed” with which the Commission for prerogative of mercy handled the cases of Dip and Peermamode. “Their cases were processed overnight. This is unheard of”, said Paul Bérenger. Hence his demand that all members of the pardon commission resign and that competent, upright and honest people be appointed instead. For Paul Berenger, the pardon commission is another of the institutions that have been “rotten” by the MSM. He also called for a review of the way members are appointed, recalling that in this case, the President of the Republic acts according to his judgment and does not need to consult anyone.

Fuel prices: “Everyone is shocked and angry

Paul Berenger also spoke about the maintenance of fuel prices in a press conference. He said that the population as a whole, and even supporters of the government, is shocked and angry.” Everyone expected fuel prices to drop. This is long overdue,” he said. He added that he does not give any credit to the arguments raised by the STC. He even took a swipe at Rajiv Servansingh, the STC’s managing director.
