Rudy Veeramundar and Ken Arian were the last witnesses to be heard in Suren Dayal election petition trial. Judges David Chan Kan Cheong and Karuna Devi Gunesh-Balaghee have invited the parties in the case to submit their written submissions by 24 August 2021. Oral arguments have been scheduled on 31st August 2021.
“Salim Muthy is settling scores with me,” says Rudy Veeramundar
On Wednesday morning, the Director of the Government Information Service deposed in the Suren Dayal election petition case. Rudy Veeramundar denied what Salim Muthy, spokesperson of the Super cash-back gold victims, stated last week. Veeramundar was first questioned by Ravind Chetty, lawyer for Pravind Jugnauth and his two running mates. He was then cross-examined by Robin Ramburn, who is defending the interests of SurenDayal.
After Me Ravind Chetty read what Salim Muthy said in court, he invited Rudy Veeramundar to react. “It’s false. Salim Muthy is settling scores with me,” the director of GIS said. He stated that he assisted only one meeting, at the National Property Fund Limited, on November 4, 2019.
Rudy Veeramundar added that in 2009, he had a fight with Salim Muthy over an article he wrote at the time. For him, Salim Muthy has lied in court only to settle scores with him. He added he was not even aware that Salim Muthy said something on national television about the reimbursement of the victims of the Super Cash Back Gold insurance scheme.
Ken Arian: “Salim Muthy broke into my office without an appointment”
In the Supreme Court on Wednesday, Ken Arian said that he “never called Salim Muthy for a meeting”. He claimed that Salim Muthy “showed up” in his office on 30 October 2019 without an appointment. Mr Robin Ramburn asked Ken Arian how this was possible. Ken Arian then said that his secretary told him that Salim Muthy was in the waiting room and wanted to meet him. H said he met Salim Muthy once and for 5 minutes only.
