Cultural Space: BazEkri20 Officially Inaugurated

Must Read

The BazEkri20 cultural space, founded by Sedley Assonne, was inaugurated on August 19 by the mayor of Quatre Bornes, Dooshiant Ramluckhun. This cultural space aims to promote culture among the city’s residents.

In his speech, Dooshiant Ramluckhun spoke of the need for the town of Quatre Bornes to reconnect with culture: “In a context where our young people are threatened by social evils. It’s important to give them alternatives. And I believe that BazEkri20 can play this role, by helping the town council to disseminate culture in the city of flowers.”

For his part, Sedley Assonne thanked the mayor for his presence and support. The founder of BazEkri20 also pledged the collaboration between BazEkri20 and the mayor’s office in promoting culture in the town of Quatre Bornes.

Guests were then treated to a lecture by Professor Mario Serviable. He discussed three themes: the life and work of Lislet Geoffroy, a Métis engineer born of a slave mother; the shipwreck of the Saint-Géran, to be commemorated in August 2024; and Charles Baudelaire’s visit to our island.

As a reminder, BazEkri20 is located on Avenue Berthaud in Quatre Bornes. The cultural space has been in existence since December 2022. Its members include Sedley Assonne, Joyce Veerasamy, Flavia Doherty-Bigara, Dinesh Bachoo, Indurani Chatoo, Babita Thanoo, Salette Siao and Assamala Amoi. They plan to publish the magazine BazEkri20 soon, with the first issue due out in December.
