The Cinema Savoy in Vacoas is about to embark on a new adventure. Transformed into a cultural space, the venue will host its first art event from November 16 to 18.

Once one of the country’s most popular cinemas, the Savoy cinema hasn’t turned on the lights for years.
Rajah and Rajiv Bhageeruthy – the establishment’s directors – wanted to breathe new life into the cinema. Their objective? To transform the premises into a space dedicated to artists: “The directors have a strong penchant for the arts. Hence their desire to turn the Savoy cinema into an artistic venue. So, with the collaboration of Artsinspire, the Mauritius Film Development Corporation and the Savoy cinema, we will be launching three days of activities. The launch is scheduled for November 16, with the opening of an art exhibition on the theme of cinematography. The exhibition will be open to the public. This event will bring together international artists,” explains Nishal Purbhoo – one of the project coordinators.
The calendar continues on November 17 with an art symposium. On November 18, the organizers are planning a painting workshop for otherwise able children. The general public is also invited on the same day to enjoy a unique artistic experience with local and international artists.
