Crime In Cité Mangalkhan, Floréal: Mikael Maunick Arrested As Accomplice Of Singer Lion Vibe

The investigation by the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of the Central Division into the murder of 21-year-old Damini Latire, known as Damien, led to a second arrest on Wednesday March 2. Mikael Maunick, a 25-year-old helper, was arrested. The latter was incriminated by the main suspect, singer Kensley Steward Assaun, also known as Lion Vibe, as being the person to whom she had entrusted the murder weapon after stabbing the victim in cité Mangalkhan, Floréal on the afternoon of Sunday March 17. A kitchen knife was found in Mikael Maunick’s home. Maunick was brought before the Curepipe court on Thursday morning, March 21, on a provisional charge of complicity in the murder.

It was a dispute over money that degenerated into a bloody brawl between Kensley Asssaun, alias Lion Vibe, and Damini Latire. The latter, who was stabbed twice, succumbed to his injuries in a ward of the intensive care unit at Victoria Hospital, Candos, at around 1pm on Monday March 18. Dr. Sudesh Kumar Gungadin, head of the police forensic department who autopsied the body the same day, attributed his death to stab wounds to the chest and abdomen.

Mikael Maunick, who cleaned the murder weapon before keeping it at home. During a search of his home on Wednesday March 20, he was arrested and the evidence seized.
