Parliament Resumes On March 26 With Some New Features

Must Read

On March 26, at 11h30, MPs will return to the Chamber after more than three months’ recess. All eyes will be on Parliament. This session normally lasts until August. It is during this session that the Minister of Finance presents the Budget. But, many believe that it could be the last session of this mandate. They are convinced that before August, the Prime Minister would have dissolved the National Assembly and call the country to vote.

Nonetheless, on Tuesday, March 26, when the new session opens, there will be a few new features. Firstly, Vikram Hurdoyal will not be there. The former Minister who was revoked by the Prime Minister has resigned as MP for Constituency No 10. The Speaker will surely announce, on Tuesday, that he already informed the President of the Republic of the vacant seat.

Secondly, the Government Chief Whip is no longer Naveena Ramyad, who is now a minister, but Kavi Doolub. Naveena Ramyad will take seat among ministers and Kavi Doolub will act as the orchestra conductor of Government.

Since Tuesday last, opposition members and government backbenchers have been sending their questions to the secretariat of the National Assembly.  One day before, the Leader of the Opposition, Xavier-Luc Duval, and the Whip of the Opposition, Patrice Armance, met in view of the resumption of the National Assembly.

It is very likely that all opposition MPs will be convened to a meeting in Duval’s office this Monday.
