Court Of Appeal Quashes Prison Sentence Of Jean Marie Richard

Must Read

The Court of Appeal has quashed the three-year jail sentence of Jean Marie Richard insisting there were no evidence of the accusations against the Media and Communication expert.

The Intermediate Court sentenced Mr Richard in November 2017 for obstructing the course of justice and larceny with violence. Jean Marie Richard supposedly had an issue with two ushers in a property dispute with someone.

Police stated that Mr Richard had stolen some items belonging to a tenant on Mr Richard’s land and had used violence against the ushers.

But the Court of Appeal found none of these elements damning against the appellant and quashed the verdict of the intermediate court. The evidence in this case is weak and incongruous, write judges Nirmala Devat and Denis Mootoo. A case that dates back to September 2009.

On his Facebook page, Richard stated that justice has at last prevailed Jean-Marie Richard, former journalist and communication professional

Jean-Marie Richard’s lawyer, Gavin Glover, Senior Counsel, talks about a 12-year legal battle. “I am not only his lawyer, but also his childhood friend and I must say that I have never believed in his accusations against him.”
