The fate of Air Mauritius was one of the topics addressed by Paul Bérenger this morning in the MMM press conference. For him, it is clear that Lakwizinn has decided everything. “I agree with Roshi Bhadain. It’s Lakwizinn Airways”, he said ironically. For Paul Bérenger, employees and creditors had to choose between liquidation or “the monster” that is Airport Holdings Ltd. For him, there was a third way that could restore Air Mauritius to its former glory. “There was another option consisting in putting competence and meritocracy in Air Mauritius.
Paul Bérenger returned to the issue of possible appointments to the Electoral Supervisory Commission and the Electoral Boundaries Commission. He recalled once again that the Constitution provides that before making appointments to this body, the President of the Republic must consult the Prime Minister, the Leader of the Opposition and all the leaders of the parties represented in Parliament. He even went so far as to say that if he were president, he would have consulted Nando Bodha as well.
But for the MMM leader, it is unacceptable that a head of state “is not aware of his value and does not know the Constitution” that he is supposed to defend. However, Paul Bérenger said it appeared that the brakes have been applied on the planned appointments.
Paul Bérenger also commented on the St Louis case. He stated that he was the first politician to denounce the contract awarded to BWSC. Paul Bérenger also said that if the list of laureates is to be changed, because of Cambridge’s error, we should not allow that those whose names have been announced will have their scholarships taken away. “It is not their fault, nor their parents’ fault,” he said.
