Arvin Boolell: The Meeting Navin Ramgoolam And Paul Berenger Went Well

The meeting between the leader of the Labour Party, Dr. Navin Ramgoolam and the leader of the MMM, Paul Berenger went well, declared Dr. Arvin Boolell during a press conference held by the Labour Party this afternoon Friday 28th January 2022.

During the press conference, Dr. Boolell addressed the issue of drugs spreading in our society and killing our citizens ferociously. According to him, “we are in a state of war; we are in a state of emergency against the drugs kingpins and barons of drugs who are evading the vigilance of the authorities.

He also stated that it is our moral, legal, and citizenship responsibility to stand up and fight against the scourge of drugs, “or else 50% of our kids’ will become victims of this scourge.” From the prevention of drugs consumption to the reintegration of the victims of drugs, the work that needs to be done is significant.

Coming to the commemoration of the 187th anniversary of the abolition of slavery in Mauritius; Dr. Boolell stated; “Pou Lamour de dieu, nou marier pike pou amen la litt pou vincre seki apel l’esclavagism modern, la pauvreter absolut et le fleau de la drogue…” also him stating that the street market value of drugs in Mauritius for the past two years is MUR 5.8 billion.

Also present at the press conference was Dr. Farhad Aumeer. He spoke about the Vaccination Campaign against Covid 19 and on the ‘being fully vaccinated status‘ as announced by the health minister on the 22nd of December 2021 stating that: “to attain the status of being fully vaccinated, every person will have to get their booster dose done by the 15th of January 2022, which has then been postponed to the 19th of February 2022“. According to this announcement, any person, who does not have the fully vaccinated status, will not be allowed in their workplace.

Agreeing to the booster dose for a certain category of persons, Dr. Aumeer came forward with the question that given the administration of different vaccines at different intervals over a long period of time, how can the ministry put a fixed date for everyone to get their booster dose done? He stated that the booster dose should remain a priority to those who are at risk, who have comorbidities, and for pregnant women.

Micheal Sik Yuen commented on the tourism sector stating that the government could have worked on better strategies to have tourists come to Mauritius and that the fear of unemployment in the tourism sector remains real.

Eshan Joomun spoke about the number of positive cases of Covid 19 registered for the past two days. According to his sources, during the past two days, the number of cases registered is around 1775 positive persons infected. He also commented on the recounting session scheduled for the 1st February.
