The case relating to the request for the extradition of Jean Hubert Franklin, alias Franklin, was called in the Port Louis court on Friday. However, Magistrate Shavina Jugnauth made a statement at the beginning. She said she had received correspondence from Mr Yatin Varma, who represents Franklin, challenging her. She did not reveal the reasons given by Yatin Varma in his letter. The case has been adjourned to 25 May. Shavina Jugnauth will indicate whether she will recuse herself.
Franklin’s parole : Magistrate’s Ruling scheduled for May 9
Oral and written arguments were made before Magistrate Vidya Mungroo-Jugurnath. The session lasted about two hours. Both sides debated at length why they thought Franklin should or should not be granted parole. The magistrate’s ruling is expected on 09 May.
