Vimen Leaks: Politicians React And Call For An Independent Investigation

Must Read

After the program entitled “Vimen Leaks – The Explosive Soundtrack”, broadcast on Friday, on the digital platforms of defi média, as expected, lots of reactions of opposition. Rama Valayden and Nando Bodha reacted at a press conference. The opposition leader issued a press release, which has been posted on his Facebook page.

The leader of the parliamentary group, Arvin Boolell, insists on the setting up of an independent team of investigators. MMM’s Reza Uteem, for his part, is calling for the immediate suspension of the police officers named in the case.

Here is the press release from Opposition leader Xavier Duval:

“I listened to the audio tape broadcast by the media last night and like everyone else, I am shocked but not surprised by the allegations made.

We are calling for an independent investigation by a foreign police force immediately to shed light on these allegations and find structures to replace the ADSU and the SST.

I’m sure France, the UK or the US would be only too happy to help.

I repeat what I’ve always said: the Lam Shang Leen report on drugs must be taken very seriously.

I also call for the implementation of the recommendations made by the committee for the reform of the police force, more specifically on training and equipment, which I chaired as Deputy Prime Minister.

Incidentally, in June 2022, during my PNQ on ADSU, it was revealed that the 120 major drug seizures had generated only three convictions in the last five years.

It is up to the government to take all necessary measures to urgently restore Mauritians’ confidence in the police force.

I intend to consult with members of the opposition, and the forces vives in the coming days. “
