US Open 2021: Emma Raducanu (18) Is The New Queen Of Tennis

Must Read

Emma Raducanu WINS the US Open! 18-year-old British sensation secures historic first Grand Slam title – and £1.8m – in front of 24,000 fans in New York as millions watch on in disbelief at home in the UK (and she didn’t drop a set in the entire tournament). The Briton, who came straight from the qualifiers, won the US Open final on Saturday against the Canadian.

Emma Raducanu put in a sensational display to beat Leylah Fernandez 6-4 6-3. The teenager becomes the first British women to win a Grand Slam in 44 years. She becomes first player in the modern era to come through the qualifying at a Major to claim the title, and all without dropping a set. Raducanu sealed the title with an ace, sparking jubilant scenes in New York.

From Bromley to Broadway – this city had Emma Raducanu’s name up in lights last night after sensationally becoming the new US Open champion.

She completed her astonishing journey from London’s far suburbs to global fame and fortune when she overcame Canada’s Leylah Fernandez 6-4 6-3 over a pulsating hour and 51 minutes.

The 24,000-seater Arthur Ashe Stadium erupted as she sent down an ace on a third match point following an agonising hiatus. A cut knee was attended to after she grazed it in a despairing lunge to the harsh concrete at 30-30 while she tried to serve it out.
