US: 11-Year-Old Boy Dies After Contracting A Flesh-Eating Infection

Must Read

In the United States, an 11-year-old boy named Jesse Brown died after falling ill from a flesh-eating infection from a twisted ankle while running on a treadmill. An American news channel, Fox News reported that the boy died less than two weeks after he contracted a fatal Group A Strep infection.

Brown noticed bruises a few after the ankle injury that scared his family. His cousin, Megan Brown, said he woke up with “a crazy rash”. She said, “His leg was covered in splotchy, purple, and red, almost like bruises. It came on so fast… in just a matter of days it shut down all his organs.”

“They said that because he rolled his ankle, that that’s likely where the infection attacked it because it was already a week,” Megan Brown told Fox 35 news on Wednesday

When Brown was admitted to the hospital, he was diagnosed with Strep A. the doctors could not save him because the flesh-eating bacteria resulted in his brain swelling, and he passed away a few days later.

Jesse Brown was a healthy fifth grader who rode his motocross and was always ready to go before he injured his ankle on a treadmill and scratched himself, which led to his severe conditions before his death.

According to a report, Jesse was born after his parents struggled to get pregnant for a decade, with the family considering him their miracle child. The 11-year-old competed in BMX and motocross competitions and was described as an old soul.

As per a paediatrician Dr Candice Jones of Orlando, infectious strep-a case in children has increased in the United States.

Dr Jones said, “Some of the speculations have been that some of those cases started after respiratory infections, and we had been seeing an uptick in those types of infections anyway post-pandemic. There are thus several routes of entry through which these bacteria can cause mild to severe infection and even death.”

Jones stated that the majority of the cases are not severe, however, in rare cases, it can lead to a secondary infection like flesh-eating disease. It reflects symptoms such as swelling, redness, a foul smell, and fever.

The Lakemont Elementary School wrote, “While Jesse was a miracle to his parents and family, he was also a true blessing to his Lakemont family.”

“Jesse was kind and compassionate, looked out for others, adventurous and truly an amazing friend and classmate.”
