Must Read

It is a case treated as a ‘high profile case’ at the Central Barracks after stones were thrown at the bungalow, belonging to the Jugnauth family, in Baie du Tombeau late in the afternoon of Monday August 8. This place was guarded by a VIPSU police officer.

Immediately alerted, police officers from the Metropolitan Police of the North Division were sent to the scene. However, no arrests were made in this case. It was only during the day on Wednesday, August 10, that the men of the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of this division, led by Sergeant Antish Gujadhur, proceeded to the arrest of four teenagers, including a minor, all living in the area of Baie du Tombeau.

The four arrested suspects were quick to confess but only the 16 year old minor was released on parole. They declared, “nou ti pe zoue”. The other three, namely Y. 18 years old, B., 19 years old and J. were placed in detention. This Thursday morning, August 10, they were brought before the court of Pamplemousses where they are facing a provisional accusation of “damaging building”. As the police objected to their release, they were taken back to the police cell.

If these incidents occurred around 6:30 p.m. on Monday, August 8, it is only on Tuesday, August 9, around 2:00 p.m. that a statement was made by Constable Permall of the VIPSU at the Baie du Tombeau police station. This police officer, who was on duty that day, said he found stones that were thrown on the roof of this bungalow. This after hearing noises. Half an hour later, these people began to play with laser lights in the direction of the bungalow of the Jugnauth family, and at the same time threw stones that landed on the roof and in the pool.

At 7:30 p.m., this police officer explained that he had informed the VIPSU Operations Room of this situation. Half an hour later, Inspector Lactive and Constable Reedoye of this unit arrived at Baie du Tombeau, and reinforcement was then requested from the Metropolitan Police of the North Division. This team, led by the sub-inspector, Ramsurrun, conducted a search of the area. Nothing unusual was found. This case was treated with the utmost discretion and the team led by Sergeant Gujadhur, under the orders of Inspector Ashvin Lullith did not delay during the day of Wednesday, August 10 to put the hand on the collar of the authors of these acts.
