The Day of the Dead (Día de Muertos) is a tradition in our country. These dates coincide with the catholic feast of All Saints. It is also an occasion for Mauritians to pay tribute to their loved ones who are no longer with us. We honour the deceased on November 1st and 2nd by going to the cemetery. It is the occasion for the Catholics to go to flower the graves of their loved ones.
This festival dates back to the Aztec civilization. At that time, the Mexicans celebrated their dead twice a year, 20 days apart, in August. First they celebrated the children (Miccaihuitontli), then the adults (Hueymiccalhuitl).
In Port-Louis, we met this couple, Marc and Monique who touched us a lot.
