This affair had been weighing on her conscience for seventeen years. The 23-year-old fitness instructor wanted to get rid of it. She went to the local police station late in the afternoon of Tuesday 26 October to denounce her uncle. This story goes back to 2004, when she was only 6 years old. Her paternal uncle had called her into his room to commit this heinous act on her. In 2014, she confided in one of her aunts, but nothing happened. The 44-year-old uncle in question, who works as a Technical Coordinator at Mauritius Telecom, was arrested on the evening of Tuesday 26 October.
It was shortly before 3pm on Tuesday 26 October that this fitness teacher who lives in a locality of Vacoas went to the police station to lodge a complaint for “causing child to be sexually abused”. This young woman took her courage in both hands to relate the worst thing she experienced, when she was only 6 years old. It was in 2004. She says she does not remember the exact date.
Her uncle had called her to her room. As a child, she had naively carried out his instructions. She was asked to kneel down and close her eyes. Her uncle promised her sweets. At the age of 16, she confided in one of her aunts for the first time, but nothing happened.
The suspect spent a night in a police cell. On Wednesday 27 October he was brought before the Curepipe Magistrates’ Court on a provisional charge of “causing child to be sexually abused”. He was released on bail.
