Online education, Safe and Sound Academy, has made it a reality. Today, this private kindergarten and elementary school offers some of its courses at a distance.
Charon Potié-Joseph, the executive director, is particularly proud of the project to transform her school into a virtual school. The idea came to her in March 2020 during the first lockdown: “We had to find a way to continue teaching our classes. At first, we turned to zoom. But, we quickly realized that the platform was not secure.”
Opting for another more powerful and secure software, the management discovered the full potential of online education: “Of course, we had to provide training to our staff and parents. But after that, everyone got used to the virtual classroom. In addition, to help parents, we have created an IT department that offers assistance when needed.”
Today with the health protocol imposed on schools, Safe and Sound Academy offers both face-to-face and online classes, “Our curriculum continues as normal. There are no breaks. So when they’re not in class, they’re doing their lessons at home. In addition, our formula allows parents to assist their children with their homework, because the content remains available at all times. We don’t want to, but in case of a new lockdown, our school will be 100% operational even at the administration level because we have digitized everything.”
