Rosehillian Arrested For Importing Rs 1.6 Million Of Psychotropic Drugs

Must Read

Information obtained by men of the Special Striking Team (SST) of the police headquarters turned out to be true. They went to Plaisance airport and arrested Naushad Ali Mandary. This 45 year old Rosehillian, who had just arrived in Mauritius, had already passed through the checkpoint and was about to leave the place. He had in his luggage four transparent plastic containers in which there were tablets of Subutex and Tramadol, which are classified as psychotropic drugs.  The market value of these tablets is Rs 1.6 million.

For the past few days, the SST men, led by Assistant Superintendent of Police Ashik Jagai, had had information that Naushad Mandary was going to land with drugs. These officers arrived at Plaisance Airport during the day on Wednesday, November 30 to set up surveillance before flight MK 053 landed on the tarmac. If the suspect is not spotted by the Customs Anti-Narcotics Section (CANS) of the Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA) or the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (ADSU) stationed at the airport, the SST hoped to get their hands on him and conduct a thorough search.

The SST’s information proved to be true. After his arrest, Naushad Mandary was subjected to a thorough search as well as his luggage. Four blue plastic containers were found. They contained Subutex and Tramadol. The suspect was arrested and taken to the Central Barracks for questioning. After a first night in detention, Naushad Mandary was brought before the court of Mahébourg this Thursday morning, December 01. He is facing a provisional charge of importing dangerous drugs.
