Ramgoolam: Elections Will Be Sooner That Expected… We Are Accelerating Our Mobilisation

Must Read

The leaders of the Labour-MMM-PMSD faced the press this morning. Navin Ramgoolam announced that the political platform was accelerating its mobilization and is increasing its activities. He explained that Pravind Jugnauth had given Rs 13 500 as old-age pension as general elections is approaching. But according to him, by his management of the economy, the Prime Minister has taken a lot more from the population.

For Navin Ramgoolam, because of inflation and depreciation of the rupee, the Rs 13 500 promised in 2019 are worth only Rs 10 500 today. He said that people should stay focus and concentrate on priorities, that is combating depreciation of the rupee and increasing the purchasing power.

Xavier-Luc Duval also expressed his appreciation that pensioners are receiving Rs 13 500. As Navin Ramgoolam, he said that this sum does no longer worth the same amount as in 2019. He also said that Government had built a war chest.

On Agalega, Xavier-Luc Duval announced that he had written to Government to know the procedures for a citizen and for himself to make a trip to Agalega. “A jetty and an air strip have been built in Agalega. However, we must ensure that there are planes and boats going there,” he said.

He also announced that he asked to meet the director of the Financial Intelligence Unit before her nomination. But Government did not accede to his request and nominate Carine Charlette-Katinic. For him, the letter he received from Government as prior notice does not amount to consultation.  He also insisted that he is against the nomination of Navin Beekarry as Director General of the Financial Crimes Commission.

Paul Bérenger also spoke about his feeling that general elections can be held sooner than expected. The alliance is this accelerating its mobilization for the 1st May meeting. He also dwelled on the CorexSolar case. He said that he was right from the start. For the Utility Regularty Authority “is a bad joke” because the CEB is in control of everything and also decided on the electricity tariffs.

On Agalega, Paul Bérenger said that for now, there is no military presence. However, he said that the alliance had asked the inhabitants to stay vigilant and to keep their eyes open. As soon as there is a military presence, everyone will know.
