The MP for constituency 7 arrived at the Réduit Triangle at around 9.30am on Wednesday. He was accompanied by his lawyers, Ravi Rutnah and Imitihaz Mamoojee. He will be interrogated under-warning. Rajanah Dhaliah will have to confirm whether he was present at the ranch, located not far from Grand-Bassin in September 2020, to attend a party. However, he also has the option of exercising his right to remain silent.
The whole affair began with a complaint from whistleblower Ajay Jeetoo to the Icac. According to the latter, Minister Maneesh Gobin and his running mate Rajanah Dhaliah allegedly attended the party, which was held near the Ganga Talao on 12 September 2020.
In his complaint, he explained that on that day, the two MSM elected representatives discussed a sum of money that the leaseholder, Hans Keegan Etwaroo, was to hand over to them in order to obtain a 250-hectare lease.
Maneesh Gobin’s confidant, Rajesh Ramnarain, was responsible for handing over the money in several instalments, according to whistleblower Ajay Jeetoo.
