Premier League: Manchester City Beaten By Brentford And Arsenal Extends Gap At The Top

Must Read

A surprise result this Saturday in England, where Manchester City was beaten at home by Brentford (1-2) in the 16th day of the Premier League.  A first defeat at home for Manchester City this season. With its victory over Wolves, Arsenal widens the gap at the top of the standings with now 5 points ahead. Manchester United’s victory in extremis keeps them in 5th place and brings them to within three points of Tottenham in 4th. After their victory against Southampton, Liverpool climbed to sixth place.

After a goal from Toney (9th), the Citizens came back to the score just before the break thanks to a wonderful half-volley from Foden (45th+1). Josep Guardiola’s players were dominant but scrappy in the second half, and then failed to beat the opposing keeper Raya, who was alert to Cancelo’s shot. The Bees took advantage of this to win the game at the end of the match on a counter-attack and the second goal of Toney (90th+8).

But Arsenal did not miss by winning at Wolverhampton (0-2), this Saturday, during the 16th day of Premier League. The Gunners were clearly dominant and made the difference thanks to their captain Odegaard (55th, 75th). A very important success for the London team, which widens the gap at the top of the ranking with now 5 points ahead of the double English champion. Mikel Arteta will have a good vacation!

Tottenham topples Leeds

Tottenham is the specialist of victories on the wire. Still badly beaten by an audacious Leeds team, Spurs won on the wire (4-3) and consolidated their third place.

Leeds managed to lead three times, thanks to goals from Crysencio Summerville (10th) and Rodrigo (43rd and 76th). Tottenham equalized three times in 15 minutes maximum (Harry Kane in the 25th, Ben Davies in the 51st and Rodrigo Bentancur in the 81st).

The Uruguayan then scored the winning goal only two minutes after the third equalizer, with a success reminiscent of the last Champions League match in Marseille (2-1 victory).

A double from Darwin Nunez

On the other hand, the Liverpool Reds won against Southampton (3-1) their fourth consecutive victory in all competitions. A first since the series of May, which was interrupted in the Champions League final against Real Madrid (0-1).

Jürgen Klopp’s players made the difference in the first half, with a quick opening goal by Roberto Firmino (6th). Darwin Nunez then scored his first double since his arrival at Liverpool (21st, 42nd).

Newcastle offers Chelsea!

In the shock of the day in the Premier League, Newcastle dictated its law against Chelsea (1-0), this Saturday, for the 16th day of the Premier League. The match was generally closed, but the game was turned upside down shortly after the hour mark by a pure shot from Willock (67th). With this success, the Magpies realize a very good operation by going back on the third step of the podium, only two points behind Manchester City, 2nd. The Blues, on the other hand, suffered their third consecutive defeat in the league and are now in 8th position, 9 points behind the Toons.

Garnacho saves Manchester United!

A week after its defeat at Aston Villa (3-1), Manchester United has snatched victory at Fulham (1-2), this Sunday, for the 16th day of the Premier League. The Red Devils started well by Eriksen (14th), but were caught by a goal of a former player, James (61st). On the last action of the game, the young Garnacho, who came in 15 minutes before the end, took advantage of a good service of Eriksen to give the victory to his team with a cross-shot (90th+3rd).
