Police Sergeant Arrested For Theft Of TV Set At Central Barracks

The news spread like wildfire on Tuesday, December 20. An investigation conducted by elements of the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of the Metropolitan Police of the southern division regarding the theft of a television set from the Special Supporting Unit (SSU) N0 1 section led to the arrest of a sergeant who works there. He was placed in a cell at the Alcatraz Detention Center at the Central Barracks on Tuesday, December 20. He will be brought to court in Port-Louis on Wednesday, December 21.

The theft of this 40-inch Sharp television set was reported stolen in a statement made at the Central Barracks police station on the afternoon of Sunday, December 18. A 50-year-old police sergeant who is assigned to SSU N0 1 said that this television set which was fixed to the wall was stolen between 8:50 a.m. on Friday, December 16 and 7 a.m. on Sunday, December 18.

This television set, whose value he said he did not know, was allocated to SSU N0 1 by the police blind on 5 March 2020. This area he argued is covered by a surveillance camera.

The investigation initiated by the CID of Port-Louis/South led this Tuesday, December 20 to the arrest of a police sergeant working in the same building. The suspect, according to some sources within this unit, took the television to watch the World Cup final between France and Argentina.
