A police officer suffered serious burns to his feet on the afternoon of Tuesday 12 September while handling an extension cable in his patisserie on Route Salazie, Brisée Verdière. After receiving an electric shock, he was taken to the Dr Bruno Cheong hospital in Flacq for treatment.  He was then transferred to the Burns’ Unit at Victoria Hospital, Candos, where he was admitted to an intensive care unit.

Following a request made to the Operations’ Room of the Eastern Division shortly before 1.30pm on Tuesday 123 September, a team of police officers led by Sergeant Sookun went to route Salazie, Brisée Verdière. The wife of a 35-year-old police officer told them that her husband, who is assigned to Operations Room, had suffered burns to his feet. She explained that the accident occurred while he was using an extension cable in their bakery. Her husband received an electric shock and his feet were burnt.

The policeman was rushed to Flacq hospital. After receiving first aid, he was transferred by ambulance to Candos hospital. After treatment, he was placed in an intensive care unit.

His condition is considered to be stable. He was unable to give a statement. The officer, who has fifteen years’ service with the police force, was due to work his second shift on Tuesday 12 September.

An investigation has been opened to shed light on the circumstances in which this officer received this electric shock.
