A Teenager Abandoned By His Parents

Must Read

On Tuesday 12 September, the Child Development Unit (CDU) of the Ministry of Gender Equality received a case concerning a 15-year-old teenager who had been abandoned by his parents in Cité La Cure. Neither the mother, aged 39, nor the father, a 41-year-old security guard, wanted to take parental responsibility for their son. A report of child abuse was made to the Abercrombie police station on Sainte-Croix early in the evening of Tuesday 12 September.

The report of child abuse was made by an employee assigned to the CDU. In her complaint, she explained that she had gone to the Family Protection Brigade office at Abercrombie police station at around 4.15pm on Tuesday 12 September, where she had been entrusted with a 15-year-old boy from Cité la Cure. The child’s mother, who was interviewed by the CDU official, explained that she had no intention of taking her son back.

So she contacted the child’s father, who also lives in Cité La Cure. At one point, while talking on the phone, he even had to hang up his mobile phone. The teenager has been placed in a shelter by the CDU since the evening of Tuesday 12 September.
