Must Read

A major police operation mounted by elements of the Divisional Crime Intelligence Unit (DCIU) on the afternoon of Wednesday December 20 resulted in the interception of a motorcyclist and his rump passenger on route de Pamplemousses, Plaine Verte. The driver of the Suzuki, Bruce Russie, 33, who lives in Cité La Cure, was found in possession of a plastic bag concealed in his T-shirt containing 1.15 kilos of cocaine. His rump passenger Seevathian Adrien Savrimootoo, a 21-year-old fisherman from Battie, Grand Gaube, was also arrested. The street value of the drugs seized is estimated at Rs 25,375,000.

Information had been obtained by the DCIU led by Sergeant Jaisen Arnasala that a drug transaction was going to take place on Wednesday December 20. Police officers from this unit went to route de Pamplemousses, Plaine Verte at around 3.15pm. Two officers, following other colleagues, spotted a blue Suzuki motorcycle with two suspicious-looking occupants. They matched the information they had obtained.

The motorcyclist and rump passenger were approached by the two police officers, who told them their identities and their intention to search them. They were suspected of being in possession of drugs. In private and with their consent, they were subjected to a body search. Under Bruce Russia’s black T-shirt, they found a transparent plastic bag containing another plastic bag enclosed with black adhesive tape containing a quantity of whitish powder suspected to be cocaine.

Confronted with this piece of evidence, Bruce Russie had to say, “cocaïne sa missie pou mo eme sa”. Rump passenger Adrien Savrimootoo said, “mo pa konn nanien ladan monn vinn are Bruce”. A thorough search of both men turned up nothing. The two men were arrested and taken to Adsu headquarters at Casernes Centrales with the bag of drugs seized. The motorcycle was also transported as evidence.

Shortly afterwards, Sergeant Arsanala’s men successively searched the homes of the two men, but no drugs were found. Bruce Russie and Adrien Savrimootoo were brought before the Port-Louis court on Thursday morning, December 21. They are facing a provisional charge of drug trafficking.

It is highly likely that the case file will be handed over to Adsu for investigation.
