A 27-year-old receptionist at the Hotel Le Victoria, Pointe aux Piments, was admitted to an intensive care unit ward at the Hôpital du Nord after sustaining serious injuries in a fall aboard a buggy. The accident occurred on Tuesday afternoon, May 7. He asked a porter for a lift to the main entrance of the hotel to join his husband, who had come to bring him bread. The 20-year-old porter from Grand Baie was arrested.

In his statement, the young porter explained that he was driving a buggy in the courtyard of the hotel when the receptionist, who lives in Trois Boutiques, Triolet, asked him for a lift to the main entrance. She was going there to join her husband, who had brought her some bread. On the way, says the buggy’s young driver, the receptionist jumped out of the moving vehicle without informing him. Immediately he stopped the vehicle to assist the young woman, who was bleeding from the mouth and head.

She was rushed to the northern hospital for hotel staff. After receiving treatment, she was admitted to the intensive care unit ward. Her condition is considered serious. The young porter was given an alcohol test, which proved negative.

The buggy was towed to the Trou aux Biches police station in a police trailer for examination. The young man was arrested and taken into custody. On Wednesday morning, May 8, he was brought before the Pamplemousses court on a provisional charge of manslaughter and reckless assault. He was kept in a police cell.  He has retained the services of Me Assad Rujub.
