Prayers began this morning with the purifying bath, culminating in the procession to the Kovils on the occasion of the Thaipoosum Cavadee this morning.
The processions left eight of the capital’s kovils shortly before 10am, heading for the Shri Sockalingum Meenatchee Ammen temple on Sainte-Croix.
Despite the Class 2 cyclone warning at that time, devotees gathered at the Kaylasson in large numbers.
Several members of the government and opposition, including Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth and opposition leader Xavier-Luc Duval, attended the celebrations.
