A 46-year-old Norwegian woman, who was taking a shortcut under the Grande Rivière Nord-Ouest (GRNO) bridge to return to her home in Terrasson, Pointe aux Sables, was attacked by two individuals on the afternoon of Wednesday 24 August before being robbed of her bag. The bag contained her Norwegian passport, her Mauritian driving licence, her bank card, her telephone, a sum of Rs 1200, fruit and meat. The whole thing is estimated to be worth Rs 20,000.

The woman, who holds a work permit in Mauritius, went to the police station at La Tour Koenig, Pointe aux Sables, at around 6pm to lodge a complaint. She explained that at around 5pm after getting off at the GRNO bus stop, she took a shortcut under the bridge. There she was accosted by two men, who were coming in the opposite direction. They jumped on her and started snatching her handbag. She tried to resist them, but in vain, the thugs managed to grab her purse. They fled towards the river towards the old bridge.

The Norwegian woman, who suffered injuries to her finger, did not want to go to hospital. She told investigators that she will be able to identify her two attackers. The Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of the Metropolitan Police South Division has been assigned to the investigation.
