Must Read

The charred body of Surendra Ramjeet, 48, was pulled out from under a pile of burnt metal sheets on the evening of Thursday 25 August by the Maurice Fire and Rescue Service (MFRS) in Flacq. The body of the man, who lived alone, was taken to the mortuary of the Dr A. Jeetoo Hospital, Port Louis on the instructions of Dr Ananda Sunnassee, Police Medical Officer for an autopsy. The autopsy, which was carried out on Thursday morning, 26 August, by Dr Prem Chamane, Principal Police Medical Officer, attributed his death to extensive burns.

It was around 8pm on Thursday evening, August 25th, that a team of police officers from the Riviere-Sèche Police Station went to Cooperative Road, Riviere-Sèche, following a request. The request concerned a tin house that was engulfed in flames. When the police arrived, led by Sergeant Greedharry, men from the MFRS were already at the scene. All that remained of the tin house was a pile of burnt metal sheets. These firemen, under the command of Officer Kowlessur, discovered a burnt body lying on its back. This house had no electricity.

The body was identified as Surendra Ramjeet. The latter, who lived separately from his wife and two daughters, lived alone. He had a penchant for the bottle. An investigation has been opened at the new police station in Rivière-Sèche to shed light on the exact circumstances of this tragedy.
