No Drains Can Cater For More Than 100mm Of Rain In A Short Period

Must Read

Pravind Jugnauth was in Telfair this afternoon for the inauguration of a mini forest. 4,140 plants to be planted on around 10 acres made available by the ENL company. On Wednesday, 1,060 plants were planted, including 21 different species.

Questioned by reporters about the recent floods and the construction of drains, the Prime Minister said that nowhere are there drains that can hold more than 100 millimeters of rain in a very short time.

He added that the government is constructing drains in places where studies have been carried out. These sites, he said, have seen regular floods in the past. The construction of drains, he said, does not happen overnight. There are procédures to follow, insisted Pravind Jugnauth.

For him, the metro express would have nothing to do with the flooding and damage caused to the Saint-Jean cemetery in Quatre-Bornes.
