Mrs Sunmate Dussoye Celebrates Her 100th Birthday

New centenarian, Mrs Sunmate Dussoye, born on 03 January 1923, celebrated her birthday, yesterday, at her residence in Quatre-Bornes, in presence of her family and close relatives.

A ceremony was organised by the Ministry of Social Integration, Social Security and National Solidarity to honour the new centenarian. Mrs Dussoye, received, from the authorities, a cheque amounting to Rs 26,203; a centenarian medal; an Air Fryer; a gift from the Senior Citizens Council; and a cheque of Rs 10,000 from the National Solidarity Fund.

Mrs Dussoye was born in Quatre Bornes. Her father was the only person owner of a private car at that time in year 1923. He was a driver and was helping people who needed a means of transport while her mother was a housewife. Both her parents passed away when Mrs Sunmate was still young. She had one sister and six brothers. Two of her brothers are still alive.

The centenarian studied up to 6th standard and undertook “La petite bourse”. In 1952, she got married to Mr Joy Narain Dussoye, a manual worker at Victoria Hospital and had six children. At present, she has eight grandchildren and one great grandchild. Her favourite dish is “Bol Renverser” and she also likes traditional food like “kitchri”.

She suffers from diabetes and hypertension and is on medication. She moves around with the help of her daughter Anita. Mrs Dussoye is a very lucid person. She has faith in God and attributes her longevity to God’s grace.
