Minister Anwar Husnoo: Development In All Local Authorities

The Minister of Local Government, Mohammad Anwar Husnoo assured members of the opposition, especially Hon Rajesh Bhagwan, that there will be development in all local authorities. The elected member of constituency no 20 was complaining that not a single project is mentioned for Beau-Bassin-Rose-Hill. Minister Anwar Husnoo said that everything depended on the priorities of the local authority concerned. He also had to explain that an increase in the allocation under the item “Allowance” for the National Disaster and Risk Committee was because sometimes the members and personnel must do extra hours and even stay overnight. Regarding the budget allocated to the Mauritius Fire Services, Hon Anwar Husnoo revealed that they have 36 firefighting trucks. 16 only are in use, 16 are under repairs and 4 are beyond repairs. However, he stated that 20 more trucks are being bought this year. He also said that females constitute only 10% of the personnel of the Mauritius Fire Services. He explained that most stations have been built for men. Now there are some refurbishments to made to accommodate women.
